Karim hauls a giant telescope around Central Park to watch
Pale Male and Lola, a pair of red-tailed hawks who live
atop an apartment building at Fifth Avenue across from the
park. When workmen dismantled the hawks' nest in December
2004, Karim led protests and was arrested. He lost his AP
job. After much drama, the birds regained their nest, and
Karim regained his job. He maintains a lovely website, palemale.com,
devoted to the hawks and other Central Park wildlife including
a boreal owl that he was observing here. |
